Manufacturing Supply Chain System
MDL Supply Chain
Supply Chain enables the supply
of materials to the production lines at the right time, by the right amount.
Material Planning
When manufacturer receives orders from customer, they must do material planning. That is
they must know what kind of materials are required for the production of the product. How
many are required. How many do they have in stock. If not in stock, which suppliers can
supply them. How long it takes for the suppliers to supply them.
Product BOM
Every product should have a detail BOM (Bill of Material). This BOM is a crucial part in
material planning. It provides information on what components are the product made of.
What is the specification of each component. Which suppliers can supply these components.
Supplier Database
In sourcing for materials, the manufacturer will make contact with many different
suppliers. The Supplier Database keep track of the information of the suppliers, business
history, product available from them, payment terms, lead time, contract records, and
grading.
Warehousing System
After the Purchasing department opened the purchase orders to suppliers, materials will be
delivered by the suppliers to our warehouses where the Warehousing System will inspect and
record the material arrivals so that late arrival or missed arrival of material will alert
the Purchasing department staff to push the suppliers or make alternative arrangement to
ENSURE THAT MATERIAL WILL ARRIVE AT THE PRODUCTION LINE AT THE RIGHT TIME BY THE RIGHT
AMOUNT.
Job Distribution System
The amount of work for a large supply chain is huge. A good job distribution system will
enable staffs to work collaboratively. Customer orders will be handled by a number of
material planners who will use the Product BOM system to analysis and produce material
requirement. Materials in shortage will then be handled by the Purchasing department (with
each staff handles only a specialized group of material) to issue purchase orders to
suppliers to supply these materials in time. When materials arrive at different
warehouses, the responding warehouse keeper will handle the receiving of materials. When
materials did not arrive at the warehouses, the Purchasing department will know at once
and conduct the follow-up action. Job is thus distribute to many staffs from many
departments.
Multiple BOM Planning
Real customer orders sometimes contains more than one product at a time. Multiple BOM
Planning allows the planning of material for many different products by one process. It
will generate a combined material requirement report. Thus saving time and labour for
planning and purchasing.
System Capacity
Supply Chain is not only going to do the job of supplying the materials at the right time
by the right amount. It is going to do in a much larger scale. SUPPLYING THOUSANDS OF
MATERIALS AT THE SHORTAGE TIME SPAN BY THE VERY EXACT AMOUNT FULFILLING HUNDREDS OF
CUSTOMER'S ORDERS.
