COM2000 PH-103p 3-Port Multi-Protocol Print Server

Quick Installation Guide

Hardware Installation
1. Shut down the printer and disconnect the printer cable from printer.
2. Connect a printer cable from one of the parallel ports of PH-103p to the printer connector on your printer(usually at the back of the printer).
3. Insert a RJ-45 cable into PH-103p from your hub or switch.
4. Insert the power plug into PH-103p.
5. Power on PH-103p. (You should see the red Power LED lights up and also the green Link LED lights up if connected to a network)

Software Installation
(For simple software setup, we recommend the use of NetBEUI as communication protocol to the print server in a Windows network environment)

1. First make sure you have NetBEUI protocol installed on your Windows machine (check: Control Panel -- > Network )
2. Insert the Setup floppy disk (for Windows 95, 98, NT) into drive A: , then run A:\setup.exe
3. Follow instruction and use default selection (recommended). This program will set up a virtual port (its name is: Network Port) for your computer to connect to the print server.
4. Use Windows "Add Printer" to add a new printer. Choose: Local printer -- > Lpt1 -- > (select the correct driver for your type of printer).
5. After finish, you cannot print at this moment. Because the Lpt1 port is not the printer port to use. We have to change it.
6. Select the printer you just added, right click on the mouse and select Properties. Now choose to add a new port. You should see "Network port" in the dialog box. Select it.
7. Click "Browse" and the computer will search the network to find the print server. It should be able to find it in a few seconds. There should be three names showed up. The number (1,2,3) behind each name indicates it is the #1 parallel port (Leftmost one), #2, and #3. Select the correct parallel port #. The Netbios name of the print server is programmed to be its serial number.
8. Select the print server name and finish the rest in the normal way. Now you are ready to use the print server to print. Test it the normal way as you would test a printer connected directly to your computer.

More detailed and updated information can be obtained from the User Manual.
